VUE WEEKLY MAGAZINE - May 31,2000

It's taken a while, but Wonitha finally has her music career on track.

"I started in music really young", explains the New Brunswick native," but then I got married and started a family, which put things on hold." She went from entering and winning local singing competitions and writing songs.

When her children moved off on their own, Wonitha decided to get serious about her music career again.  She started making a CD that she eventually titled 'You and I' at a studio in her Sussex New Brunswick home.

Then fate intervened. " I met a drifter who was headed out there", she chuckles charismatically. "So I took a chance and followed". September marks her second anniversary as an Edmontonion.  "It's a move" she reports," that has worked out  better than I could have hoped". Wonitha finished up 'You and I' long distance and then started to meet the gentlemen who now make up her band.

"I met Randy Huculak (vocals, guitar) first, then he introduced me to Warren Wells (guitar, banjo, vocals), Terry Collins (keyboard, rhythm programming) followed after that", explains Wonitha.  "It's funny when I really started to focus on my music I started meeting people who could help me".

Wonitha's move to Edmonton has also inspired a shift in musical styles. "I was definitely country when I started out" she says," but now my music is more of an easy listening/adult contemporary cross."  She hopes her hybrid will be well served on her forth coming nearly finished CD.  "We've been working on 'All in a Dream' for a while now", she says," and I'm hoping it will be finished and out next month".

Wonitha has enjoyed some radio support from local ethnic outlet CKER.  "They've played some of my music and interviewed me before." she reports. Wonitha hopes the situation comes to a party again around the new CD.  She's also looking forward to playing some shows in the future.  "I got a possible gig in Lac La Biche" she says," and I'm playing Razzleberries in June 02,2000

What ever the location of shows, the important fact is that after many years of waiting and wanting, Wonitha has begun her career in music.  The rest is details.
